From Corfu we traveled to the Peloponnesus and we stayed the night in rainy Rio. The next day we made a train trip from Diakofto to Kalavrita. We had to go to Diakofto with the train first and so we went to the little train station. Things are really old fashioned there still! The signs are done manually for example, and so we also expected a kind of old train. However, the train turned out to be very modern actually; it kinda looks like the Dutch metro. The one-hour trip from Diakofto to Kalavrita was very nice; an old little train goes through the mountains and the views were, as always, beautiful. That evening we took the train to Korinthia but don’t expect to have a peaceful quite train trip, because every 5 minutes they beep the train horn very loud to let the cars know they’re coming. From Korinthia we went to Navplio. We had to hurry because we didn’t know what time the bus would depart. When we arrived at the bus station we were told that we had to take the bus to Kanal and from there the bus to Navplio would leave at 22.00. So we had plenty of time. We ate something at the restaurant and were waiting at the bus, it was around 21.00. Around 21.30 Mieke decided to ask at the desk, just to make sure, what time the bus would leave. Oowh, not yet not yet, was the answer, the bus comes in 2 minutes. What?!?! So she ran back to us and in a hurry we got our stuff and fortunately got in the bus in time.
We arrived late in Navplio but we had already arranged a place to stay in a hostel and so we went there. A very sweet old man was waiting for us and showed us the way. We went to bed and the next morning the sun was shining! Today we visited the fort of Navplio and to get there we had to walk the 999 steps! But during the walk there were so many nice views that we looked like a couple of Chinese making photos all the time. After that we went to the little beach where some old people were already swimming in the cold sea. We enjoyed the sun and in the evening we sat at a nice place on the boulevard.
The following day we wanted to go to Mycene and Epidauros. However, due to inconvenient bus times we could only go to Epidauros. But not before we had our nice dinner at the beach where the sun was already shining! We looooove it here! It doesn’t really look like a city, the people are friendly and the landscape and sights are great. Epidauros has a nice amfi theater and other archeological sights, but they were not much more to us than some rocks which could have also just been put there. Back from the Epidauros we ate at the Goody’s; an improved Mc Donalds where you can also buy spaghetti etc. At 19.00 we took the bus to Athens; the last part of our trip.
