Yeah yeah, I’ve been on another trip, it never stops here ;) It’s not gonna be a very long story though.
This time I went with Marienjo, Glieka and Fiep to Sofia for 1,5 day. We still have our Balkan ticket so we could go with the train for free. Saturday night at 00.04 we left to Sofia. The train had coupes for 6 people and we didn’t really feel like any Bulgarian people joining us, so we started singing Dutch songs as loud as we could; Guus Meeuwis, Marco Borsato…. It seemed to work coz many people were coming in and they all passed by quickly. Eventually, however a Bulgarian guy joined us. He said he was sorry to interrupt us but that he was sitting next to smelly weird people and that we were the most normal of everyone in the train. Good, we were just trying to be not normal, but ok. He came to sit between me and Marijn and besides the 5 minutes that he was snoring he didn’t bother us. He told us Sofia is really ugly and that we should go to other places in Bulgaria. The train trip wasn’t really relaxed though. At the border we stood still for like an hour and later again, so instead of 6 hours it took 8 hours to get to Sofia. We arrived 8 in the morning at the ugly train station. We went to the tourist office to get some info and then left to find a hostel. We wanted to go the student part because it was recommended to us and Peter and Flip had stayed there as well. So we asked a cab to bring us. Thank god we survived that trip. The guy was truly rally racing through the city and when we asked if he could slow down he told us it’s the Bulgarian way of driving. Anywayz, when we got to student city it didn’t look so nice though and it was far away from the center and so we decided to go back. We looked for the hostel recommended to us by Alicia, but noone seemed to know it. We were tired and hungry so we had a good breakfast at the McDonalds; fries, burgers, coke etc etc. At the internet in the Mc we found out the location of the hostel and soon after we found it. During the day we walked through the city to do some sight seeing. There is nothing special to tell about that, we saw churches, buildings, statues, market…. It looks really nice. Monday we went to see some other sight in the city and did some shopping. We simply had to buy some things because Bulgaria is so incredibly cheap. At 17.30 we took the train back to Thessaloniki. It was a Greek train and there were not many people so that was alright. However, we went so slooooowly through Bulgaria that we were afraid that the trip might take 10 hours. Fortunately, it turned out to be normal pace in Bulgaria so we arrived 6 hours later back home.
Here in Thessaloniki everything is alright. We go to school, write some essays, enjoy the weather, chill, eat at Leski and party. Life here is still very good.
